i got a 500gb seagate barracuda in using to replace bad hitachi hd.
when i install windows, doesnt see disk went into bios and it detects the hd. but when i try to change the bios setting from sata operation, they are turned on. factory default is moff. when i try to change, says i need to unlock bios when i go into bios security, it wants passsword...didnt think mi ever put in password... any suggestions? thanks, really toasted now...how to unlock bios without admin password? working dell dimension e521, desktop. thanks |

It sounds like you need to format the new HD first.
You can download Sea tools. This is Seagates HD tool, which you can make a bootable CD from, and prepare your new HD ready to install an OS. Failing that ; Find a working PC and plug your new HD in. Format the new HD,and partition if you like. Then plug the HD back into your PC and install windows.

With it off and unplugged. Take the motherboard battery out for a few minutes.

use the cmos clearing jumper on the motherboard to reset the bios.
Are you setting the bios to boot from the cd drive first before the hard drive?
