Crappy Speakers...

I bought some cheap 5.1 surround speakers made by MidiLand with having no knowledge of speakers. Actually for all I know these could be nice speakers and I may have ruined them...

Anyway, I used to have my copmuter set up close to a mini-fridge in my room... My sub was about 2 feet away from it, and I'm wandering if this could cause damage to the speakers? I only ask because now (I have since moved my whole computer setup away from any other elctrical devices) I still get random "pops" and "clicks" coming through my speakers. Its not a volume thing because it will happen when mute is on, and actuall it will happen when I turn the system off. I did use to play music fairly loud, but in my opinion not so loud to ruin speakers, then again I have no knowledge of them. Any help as to why they "pop" and how to fix them?

It could be a loose connection between the speakers and the audio ports. I play guitar, and I can tell you, if you have a loose connection, you're bound to hear occasional popping noises (or if you fiddle around with the instrument cable connecter

). Check your connections, and see if they make popping noises when plugged into something else, such as a different computer.

Oh, and I don't think that there's any way at all that the sub-woofer being 2 feet from a mini-fridge could cause any kind of damage. I think that to do any actual damage you'd have to leave it inside the fridge for a while (which I don't recommend doing

).

Haha, the only reason I ask is because (I think) there is a pretty good sized magnet on the back of a refridgerator, and maybe that could cause some kind of interferrance with the wiring of the speakers? Alos, could this be the result of playing music too loud at all? It will happen when i have no sound coming from my copmuter, its just randomly making these noises. it might be some interference, with my old speakers whenever a cop went by they would hum lmao! thats what i call a cheep man's radar detector! just get a 9v DC adapter and plug in those speakers in your car!

What kind of sound card? Could just be mr. hankey the christmas poo wrapped in a box and labeled "soundcard".

Do not use a computer on the same circuit as a fridge or similar device.
It's bad for everything to do with useing a pc.
You seem to suspect that.

I wasn't, they were on seperate circuts, just next to each other. I am blaming the problem on my speakers now because I still hear the noise and they are not by anything that I think could cause interrferance.

I'm using a SB Audigy 2 ZS... so I don't think this is the problem to be honest.

Also I came back to this thread because a new problem... I was just listening to music, running AIM, and on this forum (that was all that was running), when all the sudden my speakers made a HORRIBLE noise. It was like crackling/buzzing/pops/etc. I immediately shut off my computer and restarted. My question is, could this be a sign of an unstable PC. I was OCing but only from 2200MHz to 2500MHz ( not a big OC at all). I'm doubting that is the problem because when I restarted and immediately restored my OC (2200MHz), now I can't adjust my volume using SB. The remote doesn't work, none of the nobs/buttons on it work but the power light is on, and the CMSS (an option you can turn on/off for surround sound through SB) light is on. I have a 500 Watt PSU, so I don't think its a power issue, but I could be wrong. Any suggestions?
