right i've unistalled a bunch of programs , when i do the hijack scan i still can see things that are there that i uninstalled. for instance phoneserve. btw what are the things hijack this finds? Are they just part of programms or processes or what?

The phoneserve entries are in your hostsfile. If you want to get rid of them, download the Hoster. Unzip and run it, select "restore original hosts". Hijackthis lists all kinds of things, homepage, running processes, startup programs, running services, etc. Each different number lists different things to help in identifying and removing malware.
