Default Possible codec issue? No sound from WMP or WMC

My brother recently bought (against better judgement) a dell desktop to use a media center PC. Well he told the guy he was going to be using HDMI to his his 72" tv and wanted 1080P and 64-bit windows. Well what they sent him was a 32bit OS and an onboard graphics card that could not even support 720P. So they roped him into a new Geforce 9600GT with HDMI out.

So I got it hooked up and got the internal SPDIF connection setup between the card and the mobo and works fine, except now he can't get any sound from windows media player or windows media center. I have him setup to use 'mymovies' plugin for WMC so he can rip his movies as ISO's and play them and the video looks great but no sound. This happens even if you just try to play a dvd from these programs although vlc and other programs play them fine with sound.

Would this be a codec issue? And if so how do you download a new windows media codec?

I would say it was more of a driver issue then a codec issue. Codec issues are more video related than audio. Is the HDMI audio driver installed?

As far as I know... But I'm not positive. The video card did not have one or any audio settings because I thought the same thing. Technically the audio is being handled by the onboard sound but the internal SPDIF routes it to the hdmi on the video card. I could not find anything about audio drivers on the msi website.

Its set in audio properties to play through the hdmi output. All other audio plays perfectly fine, just WMP and WMC play with no sound. Im not sure if theres seperate audio options for those or not. We ran setup in WMC and the setup video played sound and set the speakers correctly, but when you try to watch a movie its a no go. I should mention that music plays fine too.
