Default Does this mean my sound card is bad?

My sounds been behaving strange- on occasion a problem won't launch with sound, and once my sound just cut out. Also, in Ventrillo, I can't hear anyone else, though they can supposedly hear me.

I'm wondering- is there anything other then a bad sound card that this could be? Also, I think it's onboard- won't I somehow have to disable it before putting in a replacement?
