Default Recommend Me Some New Speakers!

Title says it all. I'll mostly be using them for music and some gaming. Would like to keep it under $100 bucks but the cheaper the better. Also I want these things to shake the walls so they gotta be loud! Oh and I like pretty heavy bass too.

You aren't going to get wall-shaking sound under $100 and even if you do, it won't be 5.1 surround sound. If you don't care about surround sound, your best bet would be to save up and get some Z-2300s, they run around $150-$170.

Thanks for the reply. What is the difference between 2.1 and 5.1? I don't even know what those numbers mean. Also it doesn't have to be perfect sound quality. But I'm in college and if my roommates and I are having a party I want the system to bump.

2.1 - 2 speakers and a subwoofer

5.1 - 5 speakers and a subwoofer

the ".1" represents the subwoofer because it produces only about 10% (.1) of the sound spectrum.

So 5.1 is surround sound since you have Front, Front Left, Front Right, and Rear L/R + the subwoofer.

Again, I recommend saving up a bit more and getting the Z-2300.

$130

The system is 200 watts, which is a great deal for the price. You won't find much more than 200 watts without getting into $200 systems. The subwoofer is a decent size so you will get a good bit of bump as well.

Thanks for explaining that. So just for clarification I currently have a old (I dunno maybe 5 years??) Altec Lansing 221 setup, which I would consider decent. How much of a performance increase could I expect if I went with the Logitech setup?

Obviously bass takes more power but that doesn't mean satellite speakers need to be neglected. I'm willing to bet that the 40 watt satellites on the Z2300 system would outperform those Edifiers at higher volumes. I am assuming if you use that yamaha with those speakers, you will have a large hole in your mid-range. It takes next to no power to create sound in the high range since the cone barely needs to move but in the mid-range there is still some decent motion going on that needs more than 8 watts to produce clearly.
