Red face Here's my story, it's sad but can't be true

I have a Mac computer for life and internet stuff and i have an old Dell Desktop that i want to use for music and video streaming.

I have a Westinghouse HDTV that has audio outputs (red and white) and the 1/4 3.5 mm output, the same green connection that my computer has.

I don't have room for another set of speakers and certainly not for a whole Home Theatre set up.

I would like to be able to use 1 set of computer speakers (i have dell speakers that plug in and have subwoofer) for listening to the Mac, streaming video thru the PC onto the HDTV and watching the good old TV.

I understand that i will need some type of audio switch to go between the Mac and PC. (i think i found a solution to that, but am open to suggestions).

I know that by having the speakers plugged into the computer, anything i run throught the PC will be heard from the speakers. (been there done that, sounds great) The problem lies in hearing broadcasst channels thru the speakers. The sound output on the TV is awful.

when i plug the speakers into the little plug on the TV they do not work. I have contacted the manufacturer who says i need Amplified speakers. These guys plug into the AC, doesn't that mean they are amplified? Additionally, if i plug the speakers into the TV, how will the PC be heard.

This doesn't seem like it should be SOOOO difficult, but i am at a loss for tech support from Dell, Westinghouse and even Logitech (who i thought might know about this)

THanks for your guidance.
