Exclamation DVD-Drive is not recognised...?

Ok I'm trying to put in my vista HP upgrade disc in my DVD drive and I can hear it spinning but nothing happens. The DVD drive doesn't appear in My Computer or the Device Manager. What should I do?

Make sure to restart after removing the filters

In case that doesn't work, you may actually have Malware (Virus; Trojan; Spyware etc) on your system
Have a look at "This Guide" and run a few of the scans

Got a problem: I'm in the Registry Editor but that guide says 'on the right pane, right click UpperFilters then click delete. But where is UpperFilters?

On some Vista machines the Upperfilters or Lowerfilters may be missing
If removing the Lowerfilters (and then restarting) did not fix the fault, go back to Registry and create a new UpperFilters folder by right-clicking and selecting New > Multi-String Value. Then name it UpperFilters
And then Restart

Note: Please be very precise with the Key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Reboot your computer and go into the bios to see if the bios even recognized the drive. If it don't then you have a bad drive or bad or loose data cable. if it does then you can continue troubleshooting why its not appearing in My Computer and Device manager( usually deleting the upper and lower filters will resolve the issue)
