once i plug in the computer the cpu fan automatically comes on, press the power switch on the front and still no response but the fan is still going...only way to turn it off is to unplug it???? another computer will normally turn on, cpu fan on but no response from the motherboard

Sounds like a fried motherboard. Like last post, try to reconnect old CPU just to make sure your MB isn't fried. If thats not the case, with the lack of info. Reverse whatever you tinkered with.
