Talking Buying a New Plasma TV

I'm planning to buy a Plasma screen TV soon but can't work out which one to go with. I chose plasma because apparently the picture quality and contrast ratio and so on are much better. Plus they seem to be much cheaper for the same size as an LCD.

Does anyone have any good reasons why an LCD TV would be a better choice?

The first thing I need to know is how good does the resolution need to be. Ideally I will get a 40" 1920x1080 Full HD screen. But I am wondering, would the same same 40" screen with a resolution of 1024x768 put out a very good picture at all? I mean how does a screen that big with such a low resolution look good?

I prefer Plasma over LCD - for Television viewing - b/c of the reasons you mentioned - but if you want some negatives here are a few minor ones.

1) Use more energy.

2) The use of energy can interfere with am ( not sure about FM b/c I don't listen to it ) radio reception. If I'm listening to a.m. radio 25' from the television - when the 50" Plasma is turned on - a few channels go from clear - to unlistenable.

Not to mention Plasma is and will be obsolete so id say stay away from Plasma and go either LED to HD. LCD is amazing in person and does very well on computers and as everyday use tv. You wont be disappointed

I used to say go LCD all the way but now i vote for LED. Just recently came out technology. Looks just like LCD but lighter, skinnier, the contrast ratio is much better for the price. Like a samsung i looked at 2 days ago had a 3 million to 1 contrast ratio with 120 mhz refresh rate. it looked amazing and was pretty cheap.

The extended warranty for a plasma will cost more plus if it does break out of warranty you are looking at more expensive repairs. Go with either LCD or LED.

I have now decided to get the Sony Bravia KLV-40S550A. It's LCD, 40" and has Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution.
I can get good prices for it here in India. It looks plain, but it still does everything the same. In fact one of the only differences I have found between that and the equal sized V series model is the look. And I'm not gonna spend more money just for that.

What does everyone think? Apart from not looking as stylish as some, I think it's pretty much perfect. Also, can anyone tell me if say a 50" with a resolution of 1024 x 768 could possibly have a good picture?

I have actually chosen a different one now.

http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/d...LXL&fullspec=F

It's a samsung and for practically the same price it looks much nicer and has a contrast ratio of 70,000:1 vs 33,000:1 from the Sony Bravia. So I think it is much best option. Any comments?
