Agreed, it's because I'm still on XP (waiting for W7) Windows firewall on XP is not the best and it much improved with Vista.

Remember your AVG paid for probably came with a Firewall protection whereas most free does not include Firewall, you may have to rely on Windows Firewall for that protection unless you get a seperate third party one.

When uninstalling AVG Internet Security, it will either ask if you want Windows Firewall back on; or it will just automatically do it for you

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some times third party applications, such as a firewall might be better that the one that comes with the AV.

my parents went ahead of me and bought a 2 year subscription to AVG.
