Question ram question

im building a gaming computer and kinda stuck on ram,
my motherboard is tripple channel but also has a second 3 slots for any
extra. i have people telling me all sorts of things like,
-i dont need more than 2 gigs
-i need atleat 4 gigs
i plan to throw whatever i can at this computer but i want to save money where ever i can. do i need 3 sticks or can i use 2?

help would be much apprietiated.
