Exclamation Microphone problem

Hi my mate has a PC problem involving his microhphone. If Audacity doesn't find a Recording Device it will Record what the PC is playing, he wanted to record something thats not available anywhere for download because he wanted it on his MP3 to listen to. So he went into control panel, clicked sounds, clicked recording and clicked Built in Mic, clicked Properties and clicked disable, the second he clicked apply it was as if the Mic doesn't even exist can somebody please help get the mic back?
