Default X1950 Pro XGE - Standard PCI-E connection or adapter?

Just out of curiousity. Because my old psu didn't have pci-e connections I used the supplied molex to 6 pin adapter and have had no problem whatsoever. But resently I picked an Antec Neo HE 550 which has the cables I need. The question is should I disconnect my adapter and connect straight to the pci-e 6 pin cable or should I not? I know it may seem like a no brainer but what I noticed about the supplied adapter that came with my gpu is though it has 6 slots for 6 pins, there's actually only 3 PINS!
So with that being said, if I connect a standard pci-e cable to my x1950 pro XGE I'll be connecting 3 more pins that weren't connected before.
I just don't want to burn out any other psu or anything else.

So, what should I do?

Use the one from the power supply, not the adaptor.

So, the extra 3pins won't hurt anything. Cool! Now I'm wondering why they made the adapter that way. Oh well. Thanks for the quick response!
