Question 8600GTS for 22" LCD? And is my monitor/video card dying?

First question...
Well, I am in the market for a LCD (actually around the black-friday sales ) Just wondering if it would be OK for me to use a 22" LCD monitor with my 8600GTS? I know I won't be able to use the monitor to its full capacity, but would it still be fine or should I get something smaller? I know for a fact anyting under 19" is a no go, but I really want a 22". Thanks

Second question...
Sometimes my monitor (17" CRT Gateway from the late '90's) will start to have black lines running down the monitor. It doesn't mess anything up, is generally not even a full minute, and I can still see everything, but it is really irrating when I'm playing a game and that happens. I am guessing that its either the monitor or the video card, probably the monitor. Whaddya think?

it depends what games you plan on playing and the rest of your system. a 8600gt can run most games at medium specs at 1680x1050. newer games would have to be turned down a good bit, but that doesnt mean you cant get a nicer card later

sounds to me like graphics card issues. have you tried using another screen to see if it still happens?

Goody, then I can get a 22" Woohoo.

No, I haven't, but when I DID have a different monitor, it never happened. Only with this one...And that GPU should not be dying already. I bought it brand new not even a year ago!!

Got another monitor u can test it with, any local PC shops that will lend you one? how about Video out on your graphics card > TV, anything really to elliminate your gpu.

I'm suprised you're old 90s CRT is still working TBH.

Like I said, I had a different one and it never happened. Soo I think that's the issue. But I guess I could use a different one, although it doesn't happen all the time. It's pretty random...

I use my 8600GTS on my 46" LCD TV.

Resolution is the same amount of pixels, no matter how large the screen.

If the card supports a certain resolution, it will run that resolution on any size monitor. The pixels will just be bigger and it won't look as good as it would on a smaller monitor.

Size of the monitor doesn't matter.

you'll see some dip in performance on newer games, but you can always lower the resolution if it's unbarable.
