What are the best parts to buy?

Ok so i built a computer for a friend back in 2005 and i now have possession of it. i Pretty much haven't kept up with the advancements in technology over the past few years. i do know you cant just go throw any old part on any old Mobo. So my question is what are the best possible parts (cpu/gpu/memory) can i buy for this ABIT FATAL1TY AA8XE?

well already have a p4 cpu and 1 gig of ram and i think an 8 series gforce video card. im just looking todo some upgrades. like faster everything. i just would like to know what the fastest cpu memory and video card i can buy for this set up.

Your Motherboard < MOBO > limits the parts you can put in your sustem.

Your mother board is limited to
Pentium 4 CPU ( old technology for today's games ) - Single core - slow architecture.
DDR - Ram ( very high price for memory ), DDR 2 and DDR3 are both faster and cheaper RAM.

You could build an inexpensive dual or triple core that would blow away the Pentium 4. Anything you upgrade on your current PC - will be expensive for the upgrade you get - and you'll want to replace in a year anyway.

I recently upgraded from a Pentium 4 - and can't believe I lived with the old P4 cpu for so long. It's still ok for surfing the web - but anything graphics related - or multiprocessing - I was always maxing out the CPU - and freezing up. Multi-tasking was basically using 2 computers for 2 functions with my P4's.

I'd start with a budget for a new PC - or new build - if you want to upgrade and work backwards.

You are wasting your money if you upgrade anything for your computer. The minimal performance increase would do nothing for in game performance. The processor you have is really holding you back. I am not 100% sure but I do not think that your board can work with the any of the newer 775 Intels.

you'd be better off getting a new motherboard and processor, you can get some cheap bundles on either core 2 duo or quad systems or AMD AM2 or 2+ (if you go AM3 you will have to get new memory too, it only supports DDR3)
