What version of Vista are you running? 32bit or 64bit?

+1 on the 32 or 64 bit question. If you only have 32bit, your computer can only physically see ~3gb of it anyway.
Not sure about Vista, but with windows 7 I'm usually using about 800mb to 1.25gb with doing everyday tasking and internet.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit and it uses about 600 - 700MB at idle. I have 2 x 2 GB installed.

I'm using 1.56GB here with 51 processes running. Vista Ultimate x64. I've been too lazy to go through and deal with the extra processes and services

I'm using 2.3GB out of my 3.25GB's but I have 73 process running 2 of which is taking up over 270mb a piece. I usually only use around 1-1.5GB's but my stupid torrent downloader and steam is a memory hog.

I've got 39 processes running and usage is at 720MB... goes down to ~400mb when idle.
IMO, you need 2gb of RAM just to run vista and apps smoothly...
