Default Color Differences From Browser to Browser

This is something I have been dealing with for a while now and I'm not sure if it's just me, or I'm missing a plug-in or something.

When I post pictures on my Flickr site or even look at regular images on the web in Firefox (which I normally use) all tones and colors and shadows look proper, rich, vibrant..etc

When I use Internet Explorer the same pictures are often lighter, duller, washed out..etc

The vibrance, tone, and overall quality has drastically diminished.

The problem has happened for a long time to me, and it doesn't matter whether I use my 22" screen, my 17" laptop, my 42 or 50" plasmas..The problem is the same.

Good on firefox--Bad on IE.

Has anyone seen this? Understand why this happens?

Is it something as simple as a plugin for IE to adjust color?

HELP..I know alot of my contacts and friends use IE and they mentioned that my otherwise well processed images are made to look crappy--and I know alot of people still use IE so I'd like to have the same representation on either browser.

thanx

It might be the Internet Explorer setting called "smart dithering".

I don't think IE8 is alone in this, in fact Firefox still does'nt support it. Browsers are competing for speed and to code them for recognising colour profiles would slow them down so it's left out.
The only web browser that respects embedded colour profiles is Safari on the Mac
