while I am at home, sometimes my network isn't available, whether it's because the connection is interupted or the signal is bad. Most of the time, I would connect to somebody else's unsecured network that is available. When I do this, can the information that is being sent be viewable? I am using sites that have SSL protection, does this help?
What I'm most concerned about is the emails and the downloads that I've processed. The emails contain sensitive information, but I'm using gmail so the entire time that I'm typing and sending information, I'm within the SSL area. Will the email "body" be encrypted or will it be viewable by a third-party? As far as the downloads go, are the names of the downloaded files and the files themselves accessible by a third-party? I just need to know how this works, there have been some information that was sent through an unsecured connection and some downloads of very sensitive information that have been made, so to ease my fears a little bit, I have to know what information is accessible and how it all works so I can also protect myself in the future. Thanks very much. Bye. |

Is your network secure with a password?
Do you have a firewall on your OS your using? Does your router have a hardware firewall built-in? What OS are you using?

Is your network secure with a password?
I was actually using someone else's network. Do you have a firewall on your OS your using? yes, I have mcafee total protection or security center or both. Does your router have a hardware firewall built-in? it was someone else's router. What OS are you using?[/QUOTE] I'm running vista home 64bit. just wondering, if I log onto an unsecured network right after using a secure network, will the information that was sent during the session on the secure network be presently viewable on the unsecured network? |
