Default Dlink

HELLO
1. I hooked up a router to my computer without internet provider(soon to come)
after i hooked up a dlink usb adapter to which gave me a couple unseured signals one weak one was from my neighbor friend which was better after i got the router for the better signal pickup is that right? first question

2. the other signal which was 70 percent which is very good i couldnt get on the internet even though it said i was connected. And on my westell 327 router i was able to configure that signal and list the ip adress into my westell control panel wan ethernet port1 dialog box. and it let me change the ssid name on that signal. How is that possible? where did that signal come from and why couldnt i get on the internet after having doing that. That signal was 30 times stronger than my neighbors signal. But i dont want to use that signal because i dont know where it came from. I just want to know
why i couldnt get on the internet and why i was able to change the ssid name on it

so what model DLINK router? You probably want to turn off the wireless on the westell modem/router. Sounds like you have Verizon, usually Verizon uses your VZE numer to authenticate you on the network, if so , probably plugged into the the westell.. My first guess would be that the westell is in router mode. If this is the case, the dlink will not work...you need to call Verizon/ISP and have them put the westell in "bridge mode"...2nnd possability I have seen some Verizon DSL that uses the mac address, just like cable, to authenticate you. It is possible that they are using the mac address of your pc... if you connect a cat5 cable to your router can you connect to the internet?
