Default blue ray weirdness

i have a blueray burner. im trying to burn some personal photos on a cd and it is under 700 so i use a cd. but the burner would not write on a cd, only dvd. and i dont really want to waste a dvd for 200mbs photos. anyone know the reason? i use gburn for the program.
