Red face iPhone Screen Replacement

Last week, I dropped my iPhone and busted the screen. I've posted the pic below, lol. Fortunately, I purchased the phone with my AMEX gold card. With that card, I have a purchase protection plan and they credited back the full cost of the phone plus tax, so I didn't lose any money. A local shop will replace the screen for $120. My wife's friend used this shop and her phone looks brand new. So I have a few options:

- Have the shop replace the screen for $120

- Get an out-of warranty replacement from Apple for $199 plus tax. It's a 16GB 3GS

- Repair the screen myself.

Before I make a decision, I wanted to know if anyone here has replaced their screen and if it would be cheaper to do myself. I've googled it and it seems like it would be better to pay the shop to handle the replacement. I can't seem to find cheap replacement screens online. Even if I find a cheap screen, I'm afraid I'll eff up my phone and end up having to buy a new one anyway. lol. My phone is only four months old and, with exception to the screen, still in good shape, so I want to avoid buying a new one.
