Talking New monitor driver install

I just got a new dell monitor. I do not have a cd drive and so I am unable to install the drivers from the included manufacturers cd. Therefore I downloaded the appropriate drivers from dell and tried installing them. I pick between analog digital and hdmi driver.

For some reason once I install the driver the screen flashes with a message saying resolution unsupported please change resolution to 1920 x 1080 x 60hz, and then the monitor resets to 1600x1200 resolution and it will not let me raise the resolution above what it is at (1600x1200). Video card drivers are up to date anyone have a clue?

Will it let you change the resolution at all? What program are you using to change the resolution? What is the model of the monitor? You can not go any higher the 1600x1200 that is the max for most monitor. If that is the recommended res for yours then that's what it should be left at.

I don't see spending that much on a monitor. I could build a new computer with that money. I will never pay more then $150 for a monitor.

Yes I am able to change the resolution from 640x 480 to 1600x1200, My monitor is 23" widescreen and is suppose to support 1920x 1080, thus why every time I install the driver it flashes that my resolution should be changed to such. I am adjusting the resolution from right clicking desktop and resolution from windows 7.

So it will only let you choose either 640x480 or 1600x1200? What kind of graphic card do you have? Do you have Nvidia Control panel or ATI Catalyst control center installed? If so have you tried using one of them to change the resolution?

I have just a 4350 ati 1 gig. CCC is installed however I did not think to try adjusting through there. When I get off work I will give that a try any other ideas if that doesn't work? 640x480 all the way up to 1600x1200 not just the two options.

Ok when you get home try this.

1. Open CCC
2. Go to Desktop properties
3. Under Desktop Area see if it will let you select your resolution
4. If it doesn't click force> desktop area> see if it has your resolution.

If that doesn't work got to display options and make sure that Force TV detect and Force Component Video detection is unchecked then try again.

Let me know how that goes.
