Default Issue with Gaming and Streaming Online

So im getting rather frustrated. I live in the dorms in college and i have high speed internet and it is pretty nice. There is an issue tho. I dont know if it is my computer, the internet, or my Ethernet cord and i was wondering if anyone might know the issue. I play dota through a lan line with my suite mates and i have hamachi and i run on a mac. The issue is that after a few minutes into the game i get dropped. Real fun when i am trying to level up my character and BAM, im out of the game. Issue two is that i have been having trouble streaming video off sites such as hulu.com and my professors lectures. It plays for a bit and then has to buffer, making it pretty much not worth even watching. Any ideas? Its rather bothersome. is there a program i can get to fix or identify the problem? thanks for the help
