Default Ive got a problem with my Vista desktop

I have a HP desktop with Vista that is having a problem right now. I rebooted it, it boots up and comes to the log in screen but it stays black and all you see is the mouse. You cant Control+Alt+Delete to get it to reboot or anything. I have to power it off using the button on the case to get it to do anything. Ive tried booting up into safe mode and it still does the same thing. I can hit the sleep button and the monitor will go into sleep but the case wont(power button wont turn amber).

I have absolutely no idea what to do, does anyone have any ideas?

You could try and return it to the manufacturer?

or you could try a repair. Do you have the cd's that came with the computer when you bought it. because these will contain drivers that you need if anything goes wrong.
