So my brother went to buy a Athlon x2 7750 and the shop sent him an email saying they were out of stock but was offered a Athlon II x2 240 for the same price...
Now I know the Athlon II has hardly any cache but isnt it based on Phonem II chip? So therefore would it be better than the Athlon 7750 which is based on Phonem I? Whats the pros and cons of each? And also the Athlon II is AM3 will that work on a AM2+ board? Cheers

But based on the specs, Athlon II X2 240 has larger L2 cache and has 100MHz higher stock clock speed But Phenom X2 7750 has 2MB L3 cache So, I say they perform about the same. But I would get Athlon II X2 since it consume less power, and it probably overclocks better Quote:

240 overclocks better, runs cooler, consumes less power, it's AM3 (which works on an AM2+ board no problem, may need a bios update), and in general has more processing power. It's also better with games.
Here's a great site I use for comparing CPU's. They only have the 250, but with a slight overclock you can get 250 speeds no problem- http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=96&p2=78 The 250 wins 30 out of 31 benchmarks. Thats a whooping.

I also vote for the Athlon II 240 Dual-Core Processor over the Athlon 7750 Dual-Core Processor.
