A while ago I tried installing a sound card, and when it didn't work I put it down to the card being faulty. Having just tried to install a wifi card in one of the PCI slots, and that not working too, methinks the PCI slots are to blame.
The board is an Asus M2N4 Sli, running Windows Vista 32bit. Any ideas? |

So absolutely nothing shows up? Nothing in device manager or anything? As with my common response, I'd try another OS. Perhaps grab a Ubuntu LiveCD and boot to that. Most hardware will work under Linux with few additional drivers, so it'll be a good test of your hardware. If it works there (or you don't want to get Linux) you could try using system restore to a previous date. Maybe there's some kind of software glitch and drivers aren't installing correctly.
Also, this is more of a long shot, but do you have all the motherboard and chipset drivers loaded?

See if google comes up with any answers, this might be a common problem. you could always update your drivers and if necessary flash your BIOS.

Most google searches suggest flashing the BIOS. Question: In a matter of a week or so I will be installing Windows 7, should I flash it now or after installation? Is it best to wait just incase they work with W7?

Best to do it before and set it up properly so you won't have to juggle windows and bios options all the time.

Have you checked the settings in the BIOS?
Are all the settings correct? Did the PCI slots ever work? Do you have the manual that the MB came with? Did you read it? How is the system configured? Any other expansion cards onboard? I know these questions are silly and rhetorical. Basically one of 2 things is going on.. either you missed a step in the original setup of the system or the MB has failed in some manner. |

Correct function of the PCI slots is such a basic hardware operation that chances of something amiss in the BIOS is pretty slim. They either work or they don't. YMMV of course.. |

I will try the BIOS update. Would you be able to recommend a replacement board? I want to use an Intel processor rather than my AMD, and one that has integrated video so my PC isn't down every time a GFX card breaks (I'm unlucky with those) |

found this for you. i hope it matches what you looking for and it even already has video and sound. it also supports a decent intel processor that wont break the bank.
