Default Weird wireless desktop issue

I have a windows xp desktop with a linksys wireless G PCI adapter and cannot for the life of me get it to stay connected to my linksys wireless N router. I can connect most of the time, but it may only be for 10 minutes or so, other times the dialogue box will say connected! but then the wireless networks menu will say not connected. I chose not to install the linksys wireless program, instead just installed the driver and let xp handle the connection, is there a router setting or something i need to change? My laptop has had no problems connecting and it is a wireless-g.
