Default Cd drive being silly, shows but not works

My cd drive is being recognized by my computer but it does not show up in my comupter and doesn't show up when i put a cd in it.

stopped working after i got my secondary hardrive installed and working.

is it the only drive on the IDE channel?

How do you know it's being recognized? Is it showing in the BIOS? Can you boot from it?

I brought it in, computer store fixed for free. but now i have a much bigger problem,

check to see if its connected with the same ide cable as the hdd is. if so, then make sure that your cd rom is set as slave. if its on a other ide cable. it wont make any difference. also, make sure that you dont have any pins on the cd roms ide plug bent. it could be shorting out. but im just thinking out loud so its not usually the case.

to be sure if your computer is detecting your drive us the "manage" to see if its detectable. and also go to the device manager to see if your computer is detecting it.
