Default Computer infected with Win32/Nuquel.E Trojan!

Well, I did something very stupid! To make a long story short, I was trying to download an OCR program, and suddenly the screen start flashing and I noticed several odd files being downloaded. I stopped the download, but then was prompt to download some antivirus software “Spyware Protect 2009”, and I then started to get display messages that my computer is infected with the Win32/Nuquel.E Trojan. I did not purchased the software, but ran my copy of Norton (which did not see anything). So I finally I went on line, searching for a way to get rid of this trojan and finally downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It was able to detect 5 to 10 trojans, and deleted them. Anyway, after several virus and spyware scans to determine my computer is clean, I now cannot get on the Internet. I am using Internet Explorer 6. I have wireless connection, and the connection looks good. I even tried my other computer and was able to gain Internet access. I also use Firefox to view my PHP files (my computer is set up as a server for web development), and it stop working as well. I guess the trojan screwed up my registry, but I can’t locate the problem. I even tried a repair with my windows XP CD, and still no luck!!!

Everything else looks good but my ability to get on the Internet. I can really kick myself in the butt for this.

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Try running Winsock XP fix.

http://majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html

It should restore your internet. After that run a hijackthis scan and post the logfile. Follow the instructions here.

***************IMPORTANT: Please read before posting********************

Open malwarebytes and post the log from the scan you ran. Click on the logs tab and open the log, copy and paste the log back here.

After I ran the WinSock XP fix, restored the Internet, and all looked okay. I did the pings per your directions and received a reply on all of them.

Thanks for your help!

I see one problem. You are running an older version of Java. Please go into add/remove programs and uninstall all older versions listed, they can be labeled as java or J2SE runtime. After uninstalling them go here and download and install the newest version.

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Also, you have a lot of startup items that could be disabled to let your system bootup quicker. Here is the items that I would disable from startup.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxWatchTray] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxWatchTray9.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxioDragToDisc] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Drag-to-Disc\DrgToDsc.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCMService] "C:\Program Files\Dell\MediaDirect\PCMService.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ECenter] C:\Dell\E-Center\EULALauncher.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dscactivate] "C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\gs_agent\custom\dsca.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Acrobat Assistant 8.0] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe_ID0EYTHM] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Adobe\ADOBEV~1\Server\bin\VER SIO~2.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE

Also, are you running 2 Antivirus programs at the same time? Trendmicro and Symantec? You need to only have 1 active virus program installed at any given time, as they don't play well together.
