Question Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT UD5P Motherboard

Is this motherboard bad or good? I'm looking for a motherboard with specs like this one, but reviews say it's not so good. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128377

it looks like the RAM slots are WAY TOO CLOSE to the CPU socket... you'd be limited in your selection of coolers.

Are there any other good motherboards with specs like this one?

Looks like a decent board to me, the reviews aren't all bad either, mostly good from what I see. The RAM should be within specs for how far from the socket it needs to be too so any compliant coolers should fit fine. Here's a DFI and a Asus board, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136067 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131363 the RAM slots are about the same distance away.

That would be a great motherboard for any AM3 build Some of the bad reviews deal with BIOS issues from a while back. I would be willing to bet most BIOS issues have gotten better with newer releases.

Take the reviews on Newegg with a grain of salt, just look at some of them.

1 egg - "Because the jumper was on the CMOS reset pins" Wow...not even sure what to say about that

1 egg - He returned the "motherboard, cpu and power supply 2 times and had the same issue...major crashes!" (I think he needs to learn how to properly build a computer)

Yeah, I guess your right about the reviews on newegg. I just wish it said 100% good lol. I think i'll get the Gigabyte motherboard and see how it goes. I just hope it works with other parts I plan to get.

Thanks for the link to the motherboards, Cromewell, but between itheir specs and the Gigabyte, I think i prefer Gigabyte specs. It does look good though. I'm looking for a motherbarid with atleast 2 PCIex16 2.0s and a few PCIex1 and maybe a couple PCI slots.

You'll never get 100% satisfaction with anything. As you can see...people buy computer parts and are not really sure what to do with them. I saw an Evga 780i review on Newegg and the guy gave it 1 egg because he had to reinstall Windows when he put in the new motherboard. He said it was Evga's fault...LOL

Post the other hardware and let some people check the list...kinda what we do here

A couple things to consider....

What about a case?
What about a graphics card?

Seagate 7200.10 drives are known to "Brick" There is a problem with the firmware and they lock up and you can loose everything. Any hard drive can fail...but they have a higher failure rate than most others. I would consider another drive.

I run a WD Caviar Blue drive...works nice and fast for me
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136218

WD Caviar Black
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136320

And RED RAM...stick with the color scheme
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231278

The CPU cooler is ok...there are better options for the price. Although the blue would fit the color scheme This is a new arrival...Tuniq makes some great products and it looks nice. Also fits the color scheme.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154008

CD/DVD dive...stick with the highest rated Here is a "customer's choice award winner" Has to be pretty good.

You should also look for combo deals also...

Not to bad, but I would drop the Harddrive.
Get a Seagate 7200.12 drive.

Drop the Ultra Power Supply.
Get a PC Power & Cooling/ Corsair or Silverstone.

Drop the Cooler
