Default I'm getting windows 7, i have vista will i loose all of my data and programs?

Hi! Need help really quick. I'm getting windows 7, i have vista will i loose all of my data and programs? People have said that i will and some people say no. Who do i believe? Need help quick!!!

If you install it as an upgrade then, NO. All your documents and programs go into a folder located in C:\Windows.old

Thanks. Yeah it is an upgrade, so should i also back up all my files anyway just in case?

You can if you want but, as long as you choose "Upgrade" and not "Custom/Full" then you will be fine.

Backing up your critical files is always a smart thing to do, even in an upgrade situation. The upgrade process will retain all your files and settings, however if you backup and something happens, you are protected!

You've got this backwards.

Upgrade will leave all your programs and data in tact.

Clean or Custom install will back up all your data into a WINDOWS.OLD folder.
