Recently I've been having a lot of problems with my computer and I think the reason might be because the motherboard is failing.
It's an old computer, but doesnt look like I'll be getting a new one soon. the MB is an Abit KN8, AMD 3500+ Venice, 1.5 GB Kingston DDR, 200 gb WD HDD. It all started with a blue screen saying driver irql not less or equal and mentioned the ndis.sys file. And at the beggining this happened every 10 minutes exactly. I googled it and it said that it was most likely the network card drivers, but the drivers were same as they had been before, and even when I updated them this continued. The mb has a built network adapter so I tried disabling it in bios and in the device manager and connected the modem via usb. This stopped the problems, except when downloading torrents. Some torrents would go without problems while others would constantly cause a computer freeze. Recently, I have been getting more blue screens, mentioning the files nv4_disp.sys, ndiswan.sys and tcpip.sys, and some dont identify any file. Also, I've had the computer freeze when surfing the internet and playing a game at the same time, etc. Also, one time during these problems, the computer would not boot up at all, it just kept freezing before getting to the memory test. I cleared the CMOS and this fixed that problem but not the others. I've did a memtest on the memory and it showed no errors. The HDD has some bad sectors which spinrite could not read, but that has been the case for a while and has never created problems before. All in all, do you think it's the motherboard and the problems will go away if I replace it? Thank you for all your help :-) Last edited by Zlatan; 10-26-2009 at 01:46 PM. |
