Hello all, been a long time since I last posted here. I am looking to buy a new monitor. I don't do any kind of work, I just play some games. Here is the monitor I might be buying.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824254041 It's affordable and much better than the one I have right now. I'd like to know if that's a good choice or if I should go with a Widescreen instead. Is it true that Widescreen monitors hurt your eyes more than normal LCD monitors? Thanks! |

I've had both and prefer widescreen. Acer has really good monitors.
Very nice 22" for $159 with free shipping. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009145

Cheaper but specs aren't as good... Only 1680x1050 vs 1920x1080. Plus the other had a higher contrast ratio (not sure what the actual ratio is) and HDMI input.

As soon as you've have a bigger screen you won't go back. Extra few bob for the 22" will be money well spent.
I bought a 24" acer 2 years ago now - it's been perfect, great picture, and a great size. Widescreens don't hurt you eyes anymore than any other screen - and flat screens are a million times easier on the eye the the old CRTs. Buy the biggest you can.

Honestly I'm not and have never been a huge fan of wide screens. However, it has become such a standard anymore you really can't find much of anything else. At least not at a reasonable price with reasonable specs.
Recently, I actually treated myself to a new Acer monitor. Unfortunetly it had some problems with the "sensor touch" menu buttons, but I got an idea of what the monitor would be like. I suppose the specs aren't quite as good as some of the other monitors posted, but I really needed the higher resolution. Plus being native 1080p makes it better suited for video playback and such... (well, thinking along the lines that HD videos will match the screen, won't have black bars, won't distort, etc) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009157 I guess I'll have more to say about this monitor in about a week if anyone's curious.

Yes, I would certainly be interested in your experience because I am in the process of researching for a new monitor.
And like you I am not enamored with the 16:9 widescreen. I would love to have more 5:4 but the larger screens are way out of my budget. |
