Default SATA HDD not loading windows

Hello all I just got a WD Raptor 74GB and it shows up in bios and shows up in my computer, I loaded windows 7 on it and now it does not load windows, gives a message of improper boot device, but it is seen with bios and my computer as a second hard drive and does have windows installed. Any ideas?

This was more of a problem with XP, but do you have the drivers loaded for the SATA controller?

Yes drivers are loaded, also have a SATA optical drive that works in all 4 SATA slots so no bad slots.

In your BIOS change the hard drive to master if you can.

I have two hard drives. My motherboard would automatically attempt to use my IDE hard drive first as a boot device. There is no operating system loaded on the IDE hard drive so I would just get an error message. I unplugged the IDE hard drive and then my system would boot from my other Serial ATA hard drive automatically without any changes in my BIOS.

Have tried that, when I unplug my IDE drive it gives the error of wrong boot device, even if it is the first boot device in bios.

How did you install 7 on the raptor? Did you hook the SATA raptor up and boot to the 7 install disk, pick the raptor drive and did the install with your other IDE drive still hooked up. If so try booting to the IDE drive and see if you get a OS option to pick from.

Win7 was installed through the IDE drive due to Win7 disks not wanting to auto run. No I do not get a boot chose, I set which HDD I want to go first if I pick IDE win loads off it, when I pick SATA get error.

So you loaded it from your IDE drive. Have tried setting your SATA controllers to Native IDE mode in the bios? No speed loss you just lose hot swap.
