Default Remote Start and Shutdown Computer with IR Receiver?

Ideally I would like to have my media center pc setup so I could turn it on and off from my remote. Im currently using the microsoft ir receiver and remote and it will shut down correctly, but I cannot tell the pc to start up via the remote control. Is there anyway to do this? I thought I had heard once that a motherboard setting had to be turned on or something but I dont see anywhere in the settings to do this.
