Printer HP LaserJet 1020 not working

Hi to all.
I have a HP LaserJet 1020 printer, it was OK working on my desktop computer running windows XP .
But in my laptop PC, (Windows XP again) , although i have installed its driver but sometimes its not working. When I connect it, A balloon appears stating:
The USB device not recognized.
I installed the driver again and now I have two drivers for the Printer but the problem is still on.
What are your opinions?

The first solution worked for me, It was a problem with my USB cable. Although it is HP original but it wasn`t working properly. Seems its common problem of LaserJet1020.

I was facing the same prob , i saw this thread and tried the solution provided by Euklid, it worked fro me as well........,.
