I work here at college in the user support department and this kid just brought in his laptop. He said it was stuck in the "logging off" screen and couldn't get out of this screen. I thought "well, this is simple...just do a force shutdown and reboot it." This did not work.
I powered it down completely and as soon as we started it up again, it went right back to the logging off screen. I am positive that the machine was completely powered down. The kid also mentioned that he had taken out the battery for a couple hrs this morning to make sure his laptop was really off. This did not work obviously. I don't consider myself an expert but I know enough to help troubleshoot most computer issues. I've never come across this one though. The laptop was an HP, 6 months old, and running Vista. I told him that most likely it was a virus and to contact his vendor for support...because we don't touch personal computers at college for insurance purposes. Was I right about the virus assumption? |
