Post ATA Hard Drive,

I'm trying to fix my bosses computer and for some reason it's not working. He has an old dell destop. I put the new hard drive in and put the os cd in and turn the computer off and on, and instead of it trying to load the cd. A black screen comes up and says, "Diskette drive 0 seek failure; strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility." What should I do?

Open the case and look for a loose floppy drive cable. If the computer doesn't have a floppy drive, go into the bios and disable the floppy disk.

All the cables are connected, I'm thinking the computer isn't reading the dvd and cd drives; but I'm not sure if that's the case.

The error you are getting wouldn't be from the cdroms. You also could have a bad floppy drive or you need to reset the cmos.

This error refers to the floppy drive. Either bad drive, bad cable, no power going to it, or bad cmos.
