anyone know if microsoft is letting out a beta of longhorn to testers yet?

there's beta versions all over the place, but they don't just give them out , search the forums for longhorn

you wouldnt happen to know the tentative release date for the real longhorn would you? i thought i remember hearing it was due december 2006 or something but im not solid on that.
