Default Nyko air flo controller problems

Hello all,
I have a Nyko air flo ex controller that I used to use on my Windows XP PC. I just recently tried to use it on my newer laptop with Vista, and it's not working. I have the software that came with the controller and when I tried to install it, it said the driver was only compatible with Windows 2000 and XP, which isn't true because a bunch of people are using this same controller and software with vista. So, I chose "install with recommended settings" and it installed fine. Now, when I assign a button from the controller to a button on the keyboard (I just want to play some NES emulators!) it doesn't work. It just doesn't do anything and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've already gone to the test page for the controller, and I know the controller is working and my computer is receiving the signal. Does anyone know what is going on here? I can't play emulators with the keyboard! Any help would be appreciated
