Default Pretty sure it's time for a new one...

So I was at my grandparents today and grabbed their laptop to view some photos I'd taken with their old camera. I drag it over to the couch with me and power it up. A few minutes later I notice it's still on a black screen and realize something's wrong I power it off then back on and I get the same thing. The fan kicks in at different speeds, optical drive makes a few noises, HD spins up, but never any video.

While there, I took a small screw driver and removed the RAM, wireless card, hard drive, and optical drive. I never got anything; no video, no backlight, no beeps...nothing.

The computer has been on the fritz for a while now. The wireless card gave out a while back... Actually; the card is fine, but the port/interface has failed. They also have gotten random scrambled screens fairly recently. I think some were heat related (after playing full screen flash videos), but recent ones happened from simply opening Firefox.

Guess I'm just asking if anyone has any more suggestions... If not for the laptop, for new laptops? My grandfather just had a knee replacement, so probably nothing will be sought after until he's a bit more mobile. I'm leaning towards a Toshiba, but it depends on what prices are and all.

(the picture was one they took when it locked up. I'm quite sure they were playing spider solitaire when it happened )
