Talking Forum Registration Fail!

Hey guys...im totaly shocked at this....anyone else know a forum that charges its users to register?

I just joined a Uk TV chat forum....basicly the same as CF but talk about tvs, digital tv etc...as i wanted to ask about a certian tv

Anyway i registred and got a validation email to my account just to prove that im not a spambot....and this is the email i get back after validation....

Dear Nevakonaza,

As stated on our registration page, users registering with the (Forum name here) who use Hotmail, Windows Live Mail, Yahoo Mail, Google Mail (GMail) or Lycos for their registered email address must pay a user verification fee of £5.00 so that we can establish that the anonymous email address is not being used by an automated bot and/or for abusive purposes and is being used by a real human being. This is a one time user verification fee - using the forums is free (they are advertising supported).
They can shove that £5...where the sun dont shine!

Major fail or what? Im shocked this forum has members! I wont say the forum name though for obvius reasons.

I know forums that requires you to sign up with a email provider email, ie @comcast.net, @verizon.net, but asking for money is just stupid...

That is pretty ridiculous but I bet it helps prevent a lot of spam on the forum.

Why don't you create an email with your ISP and sign up with that?

Heh, i tried to sign up for a facebook using my emails from my domains and they both wouldnt work. I have a feeling its due to the spammer that was spoofing my domain name trying to sell...umm... "pharmaceuticals"

Dont skimp on a power supply,if it fails, it usually takes out other components alongside it.

I do not think it is a major fail. Spam is a big problem on forums, and nearly all of it usually comes from people with these throw away free email addresses, so I guess that is one way of cutting down on spam.
And I am sure existing members would not be complaining about that rule.
Having said, that, no way I would be implementing that here.
I did however activate the recaptcha form for new forum registrants on this forum.

it would be better say, if it was refunded after 100 posts, or a time period. and it also says that it is ad supported. i would say it is a fail because of that.
