Default I'm confused :(

I am having a problem reformatting my hard drive. I am fairly new to the whole world of computers, but I am learning fairly quick.... I think. My problem is the following: I place my os cd in and reboot my computer. Instead of having the option of reformatting the hard drive, I am taken straight to my desktop. Any help is appreciated.

You need to go into the bios and change the boot order to have it boot to the cdrom first instead of hard drive.

yes, you should set cdrom as the first boost in the BIOS , it is easy step into if you press DEL key when machine launch
