Well I had a Nikon D40 for like 2+ years and it quite working on me about a month or more ago. I picked up a $60 camera at wal-mart to hold me over for a little while and I just can't take it no more. I went camping over the weekend and took some pics, they would have been awesome if it wasn't for my camera, here are some of them http://img3.imageshack.us/g/sdc10459j.jpg/. I don't want to spend much and I probably want get one to around Christmas time since I will probably find a good deal around then.
This is the one I have been looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16830122200. I'm not to big on the brand but it has decent comments(of course I don't take reviews to seriously). I just want to know what models I should look at for when I'm ready to buy in a month or two. My price range is around $200 I would get a DSLR but I'm an amateur and they are more then I'm willing to spend on a new hobby. I guess my best bet is a SLR.

If you're serious about making it a serious hobby lol, I guess an SLR would help. But if you're just trying to give it a chance, then that looks like a good choice. Fujifilm make nice cameras.

. I guess that means it is close to and SLR but not as good. It really made me mad to see my pics turn out like they did . I'm almost sure anything would be better then what I have.Quote:
. I don't have the D40 anymore I sold it on craigs list for $150 . The guy that bought it said he could fix it. He called me back a couple of days ago and said he was actually going to loose money on the camera after fixing and selling it , I don't think that is good. He wanted to know if he could get a refund for the camera. I told him no, I said you bought the camera knowing the risk now you got to deal with it and that was that.Like I said for now I just want to be able to take a decent photo. I don't need a $400 camera. I could easily buy a $1000 camera I have plenty of money, but I'm not going to spend a whole lot of money on something that I might lose interest in. Oh btw can somebody give me a good site for cameras newegg doesn't have a whole lot to choose from.

In other words, as far as control over the pictures, it's close to an SLR but it has the image quality of a P&S. BTW, a change of camera alone is not going to improve your pictures, like you claim.

Do you think it would be worth the extra to get the SLR. I could probably find one for what $250 maybe.

That sounds about right. Does not mean they're the best ones though.

You can find awesome deals for lightly used / refurbished bodies at Amazon for around $300 (Nikon D40 / D60 or Pentax K100D / K100D Super)
Lenses are cheap, kit lenses can go as low as $50

Actually the main difference between a SLR & SLR like is the ability to change lenses.
Which the SLR like is unable to do. Check out: www.bhphotovideo.com
