If I had $1,600 this is what I would do. A hundred people here will tell you 100 different ways to spend $1,600.

For me and my needs...this is the one

It will leave you about $400 for a graphics card and CPU cooler. It really depends if you want ATI or Nvidia. The motherboard I selected is best for an Nvidia card. If you want an ATI card, you might want to look into another motherboard.

Case: LIAN LI Lancool PC-K62 for $120
Here

Case Fans: XIGMATEK White LED 140mm x 3 & 120mm x 1 = $50
120mm
140mm

Fan controller: ZALMAN MFC1 for $37
Here

PSU: CORSAIR 750HX for $170
Here

Motherboard: EVGA X58 for $230 (Nvidia Card)
Here

Motherboard: Not really sure what is the best for ATI card setup? One of the guys above picked some nice motherboards that would be good with an ATI card setup.

CPU: Intel Core i7-920 for $290
Here

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB for $155
Here

Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB for $75
Here

Just my 2 cents

I think that's it. Oh, also right now on newegg you get $22.00 off on the CPU and CPU cooler with combo deal.
Also you'll need to get an internal DVD reader at least, if not burner to install your OS, as I just recently discovered. I did not list my choice because the options and prices are endless and cheap.

That should easily be within your range.
