Well over 4 years ago I was helped (by this very forum) with the components for my first new build PC.
It was built around the following Moby and processor AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939 512Kb Inc Fan Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 Socket 939 nForce 4-4X PCI-E ATX Moby I'm now looking into maybe upgrading the PC but Socket 939 processors don't seem to be available via retail anymore. My first questions are 1) If I remember rightly the motherboard can take a dual core processor, performance wise do you think it would be worth doing? I'm happy with the performance of the PC as it is now (with only 1GB of RAM) but I might want to edit video from an HD camcorder and install a blue ray burner early in the new year. So cost wise I'd be looking at a dual core processor and more RAM (maybe 3GB in total) and a new operating system (Windows 7) and suitable graphics card. 2) So "IF" the upgrade is worth doing where would be the best place to pick up a Dual core processor and would it have to be a used one? (my guess is yes). I am based in the UK btw. Thanks in advance... Dave.. |
