Default Noob trying to install Second DVD Drive

Hi everyone im new here and new to working on computers.

I have a dell Dimensions E520 and im trying to install a second DVD drive there is no extra power for a second one and neather is for my Second Hard Drive so my first question is how to get power for both my second DVD drive and Hard drive, i found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

is that what i need to get some power for both my DVD and HD? I also found this

http://cgi.ebay.com/new-IDE-to-Seria...#ht_711wt_1165

Would that work as well? I have a IDE Female port at the end of the SATA cables going to my Computer. Here is some pics of my computer.

Which one do i need? would that IDE to SATA thing work?

or this? http://cgi.ebay.com/3-IDE-to-Serial-...#ht_2639wt_939

Ok after i got that settled and have the power i need, what is this Master Slave and CS thing? Is it on the back of the DVD drives or what? and What is this jumper thing? Sorry im completly new to this. I plan on buying this DVD Drive

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_3634wt_939

I want both DVD Drives to be able to burn at the same time, is this possible? Thanks for all the help!

Are you sure there are no power connectors there? I'm not 100% sure about your model, but I worked on some Dell's from that era and they had the SATA and power cables pre-routed to the expansion slot.

Either way... Lets see what you have... If you don't have any of those black SATA power adaptors, you will need a converter. That one at the top of the first picture should be fine, just convert from that.

The white connector in the second picture with "??" by it sure as heck looks like an SATA connector. Seems rather isolated (they're usually in pairs), but it should be one.

Master/Slave is about older PATA/IDE drives. As long as you get SATA drives, you shouldn't have to deal with any jumpers.

Oh, and a final note. Rather than buying all the parts separate, you might want to look into a retail package. I suspect you could find one for about the same or less than what you'd pay for all the cables separate from a more respectable store (Say Amazon...)

ok but these two products look different for the power part.

this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_2691wt_939

Is small for the power part like the one that is already on the back of my drive

this one http://cgi.ebay.com/new-IDE-to-Seria...#ht_711wt_1165

Looks alot bigger, it looks like the part that reads the DVD drives not Power the DVD drives am i not correct? There is two things that goes on the back of the DVD drive bigger part and the smaller part. Bigger being the reader and smaller being the power. The two look different

Link one is for an SATA cable... Very expensive one at that... I saw a drive on Amazon for about $35 that included an SATA cable...

Link two is a typical Molex to SATA power converter. Again, the white plug at the top of image one is all you need. Just remove the black cap. Actually all the connectors are the same (5v, 12v, 2 grounds) so even the smaller/floppy connector would work, I've just never seen converters for them.

I think we are confused i took some new pics. here is a pic of my sata cable going ending with the IDE thing at the end. It has two sata ports for two DVD drives

the second pic here is a pic of my power to the DVD drive, its alot smaller

the next pic is a peice i have no idea what is and is labled p7

and this last pic is what i just found out to be two power ports for the sata? I plugged my Sata power from the dvd drive into that and its a perfect fit

so i would really need is two extra power lines? like this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/F-SATA-Serial-AT...ht_1469wt_1165

please correct me if i am wrong or if there is something better i could buy? Like not using the extra two slots because the main slots or better just buy splitters or something.

the "??" you have labeled is a SATA port. in the third photo that black connector is a SATA power cable.

You need one of these:

it seems like people are naming something the same thing. they are calling this http://cgi.ebay.com/new-IDE-to-Seria...#ht_711wt_1165 a sata power cable when it is just the thing that reads the Drive, not power it, am i not correct? Or am i totally backwards and the link is the power, and the second line that is smaller is the part that reads the drive?

First picture is of your power connectors. If at least one of the black ones are free and will reach, that's all you need to power it.

Second picture is your SATA data cable. A retail drive should include one of these if you don't have spares in the case.

Third picture is a power connector, typically used for floppy drives.

Fourth are your SATA data connectors on the motherboard. I assume at least one is open?

yes both are open. Thank you, i was backwards i guess, so that would make alot more sense on ebay, im not needing another power im needing a second data cable, same goes for my second Hard drive, it has power to it, but no Data. Does it matter which one goes to which? There is a White one and a black one (fourth pic) Or can any go to eather?

Is 45Cm long enough to reach both my HD and DVD drive?
