I returned the DVD+RW to it's original computer and as it turns out it no longe works consistently in that computer. Originally it worked out perfectly but at this point I get the same symptoms in its original computer (where it once worked perfectly). I guess the drive was just too old and crappy for the trip.

Funny thing though: When I replaced my original DVD drive into my main computer I can't even get it to eject. The commuter recognizes it but it will not eject through the computer or when the button is pressed. I guess I have the touch of death.

Looks like I won't be trying to "upgrade" anything else in my computer for fear of busting more things.
