Default Guild Wars on dial-up?

Is there anything I can do to my pc or the game settings so I am able to play Guild Wars?

on dial up, no, you will just get lots of lag and disconnection, if you upgraded to maybe even 1mb broadband it would handle it no problems at all and that is fairly cheap per month.

No offense but I busted up laughing when I read this thread title!

As mentioned, dial up is barely acceptable for basic internet functions let alone any form of demanding internet intensive action such as gaming.

Hopefully they offer dsl where you are!

It isn't really intensive until you are sat with 40 people at once, which happens alot in MMORPGs, especially in cities where there are thousands of people at once and you have to get a few kb/s from each of them telling you where they are and what they are doing

can't you get one of those wireless dongles? Even they work at 512mb I think and work from your phone or from satelite, depends which you get, they aren't massively quick, but are faster than dial up

If you select quiet servers such as the Korean server then you may not suffer from large amounts of lag that you may get from 60 odd people being in a main area.

However a server in Korea is further than a server in your area (probably) so some lag may be evident but most likely less than in a busy server.

Finally when entering a new area (you may already know this) you download around 3 megs of data for that area so be prepared to wait quite a while when zoning.

Overall you should be able to play but prepared for team mates to complain when they have to wait for you to load the area and cope with your lag.

hope this helped

Here's the deal with GW and dial-up (yes, I've played it on and off from the beginning over 4 years ago). When you are in a city, there will be pretty major problems with lag especially in the larger cities. However, when you head out to "quest" it will actually be fine since you are completely on your own (unless you want to party with someone), and your only real connection is between your own computer and the server. Furthermore, most of the interactive processes are on you own computer without the server anyway. Oh, and don't play on the Korea server, that will actually increase your lag problems even with the vastly fewer people on it.
